Q. When is the event?

A. October 11, 2026 (Sunday).

Q. Where is the venue?

A. Tarobogu Shrine (Aga Shrine), Higashiomi City, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. About 1 hour from Kyoto by train.

Q. How do I register from outside Japan?

A. Please contact the organizing committee directly at information@step-out.jp. We will guide you through the registration process.

Q. What is the course like?

A. You race up 379 stone steps of Tarobogu Shrine. The course is a straight climb from start to finish. The fastest runners complete it in under 50 seconds.

Q. Do I need to be a professional athlete?

A. Not at all! The "Challenge" categories welcome participants of all fitness levels. You can climb at your own pace and enjoy the experience.

Q. Is spectating free?

A. Yes, spectating is completely free. You can watch the races from various points along the stone steps.

Q. Can I bring my dog?

A. Yes! There is a Dog Pair category where you can run with your dog. A rabies vaccination certificate is required.

Q. Is there accommodation nearby?

A. Higashiomi has several hotels and ryokan (traditional Japanese inns). Nearby cities like Omihachiman and Hikone also offer accommodation. Kyoto is about 1 hour away by train.

Q. What is the race day schedule?

A. Doors open at 7:30 AM. Racing begins around 8:50 AM with the elite category, and continues through the afternoon with different categories racing in waves. The final race starts around 2:30 PM, and the event wraps up by 4:00 PM. The exact schedule for 2026 will be published closer to the event.

Q. What language is used at the event?

A. The event is primarily conducted in Japanese. Chinese-speaking volunteer staff will be on-site to assist international participants. English support is also available.

Q. Can I get a refund if I cancel?

A. Entry fees are non-refundable. This applies to all participants, including international entrants.

Q. Is the event held in rain?

A. The event goes ahead in rain. It may be cancelled in severe weather conditions, in which case announcements will be made on the official website. Entry fees are not refunded in case of cancellation by the organizer.
